Pumas will not renew Jose Juan Macias's contract
Pumas did not accept Jose Juan Macias's demand to have and rehabilitation in the United States, therefore the employment relationship was not extended
Jose Juan Macias will not continue with Pumas UNAM next season, according to unofficial sources who claim that both parties could not agree on the location for the surgery and rehabilitation of the striker for his left knee injury.
When it was assumed that Pumas would cover all the expenses related to the recovery of the unfortunate striker, who has been plagued by serious injuries over the past four years, they were unable to reach an agreement with the Jalisco native because Macias demanded that the surgeries and rehabilitation be performed in the United States.
The Pumas management suggested Mexico City or Guadalajara with Dr. Rafael Ortega, but JJ Macias disagreed, leading to the termination of the employment relationship and ruling out any possibility of an agreement for the future of the Pumas UNAM striker.
The university management weighed the pros and cons of reaching an agreement with the player, who has a history of being very difficult to negotiate contracts. In this case, however, he was seeking to protect himself and secure the support of the Pumas' management in a matter of this nature.
Macias' Debut and Farewell
Macias arrived at Pumas at the beginning of the current tournament, when the team was building its squad to try and break its nearly 15-year title drought. His performance improved steadily until he scored four goals, but ten days ago, during the game against Cruz Azul, he suffered a serious injury to his left knee.
Macias suffered a triple tear in his left knee. The Mexican striker tore his anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament, and medial meniscus, which will sideline him for nine months. Pumas offered him options to recover in Mexico, but he insisted that his rehabilitation and treatment take place in the United States.
The striker, born in Guadalajara, Jalisco only played 331 minutes with Pumas in eleven matches, where he managed to score four goals. It was thought that Macias would become one of those sporting miracles, the offensive heart of the Pedregal team, but when it mattered most, his physical fragility caught up with him, resulting in an injury.
