Santiago Giménez and Obed Vargas reported with the Tricolor and ten will fight for two remaining places
Santiago Giménez and Obed Vargas are already working with the Mexican team, while Chino Huerta and Berterame have one foot out of the World Cup
Santiago Giménez, forward of AC Milan, and Obed Vargas, midfielder of Atlético de Madrid, reported this Tuesday with the Mexican team, which in the last week will define the last two places in a list of ten players who seek to sneak into the list of 26 World Cup finalists at the last minute.
The list of ten players who will look for the last two available places to complete the World Cup list that will be announced on June 1, includes Richard Ledezma, Carlos Rodríguez, Marcel Ruiz, Luis Chávez, Germán Berterame, Jesús Angulo, Everaldo López, Alejandro Gómez, Kevin Castañeda and Julián Araujo.
The Mexican team resumed its preparation for the second and penultimate preparation duel in the last phase of work designed by Javier Aguirre and where they will have to face Australia next Saturday in a highly complex duel that could give an idea of what the Mexican team has in its backpack.
Giménez and Vargas decided to cancel their vacations after finishing their participation with their teams in European soccer and although they had the option of starting to work with the Mexican team until next Monday, they decided to do so immediately to look for a place in the starting team that will debut on June 11 at the Mexico City stadium.
Both players will be included in the travel list for the city of Los Angeles, California, for the match against Australia and where they could have minutes of action like Álvaro Fidalgo and Julián Quiñones, while Johan Vásquez will report directly to the Californian city for the duel at the Rose Bowl in the city of Pasadena.
In the case of Santiago Giménez, he will have to fight for ownership with Raúl Jiménez, Armando González and Guillermo Martínez, who will be the other center forwards, although if Germán Berterame is called up at the last minute, he could perform other tasks on the field of play.
While Obed Vargas will have to do the same with Edson Álvarez, Erik Lira, and Álvaro Fidalgo, in what seems like a fight without giving or asking for quarter in the 16 days remaining until the 2026 World Cup.
It is expected that, for the game against Australia, the 26 players that Javier Aguirre chose for the World Cup are already concentrated.
