Anthony Hopkins will take an unexpected turn in his career
The 88-year-old actor announced his debut as a classical music composer after signing a record deal with Decca Classics and releasing an album
In a twist as surprising as it is poetic for the world of entertainment, Anthony Hopkins has decided to rewrite the script of his life. At 88 years old, and after consolidating one of the most influential acting careers in the history of cinema, the protagonist of “The Silence of the Lambs” has announced his professional transition towards classical music, signing an exclusive recording contract with the prestigious Decca Classics label.
The news came accompanied by the release of their first single in this new stage, titled “Bracken Road”. The musical piece is a nostalgic work and inspired by his childhood memories in Margam, south Wales, during the 1940s.
This song is part of a selection of orchestral works that the actor has been writing in private for more than six decades, keeping them secret while accumulating more than 150 film and television credits.
“Music was my first desire, my first desire,” Hopkins confessed in an emotional press release. "I've been composing music my whole life. Some of these pieces have lived with me for decades, and I still find myself returning to them inevitably," the artist added.
For his big musical debut, Hopkins will have a top-notch collaboration. His studio album, called “Life is a Dream”, has been recorded by the famous Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of the acclaimed Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel.
The renowned maestro praised the sensitivity of the award-winning actor, ensuring that Hopkins approaches music “with the heart of a storyteller and the instinct of a poet, creating deeply personal sound worlds.”
With the official release of “Life is a Dream” scheduled for August 21, Anthony Hopkins demonstrates that art knows no age and that it is never too late to fulfill the pending dreams of childhood.
