Serena Williams confirms her participation in Wimbledon singles
Serena will also return to the doubles tournament with her sister Venus Williams
The return of Serena Williams to the circuit will continue to add chapters and will have one of its most emblematic stages. The former world number one will compete in the individual draw at Wimbledon 2026 after receiving an official invitation from the tournament organization, thus marking her return to the grass of the All England Club after several years of absence.
The American, considered one of the most dominant figures in the history of women's tennis, will also return to the doubles tournament with her sister Venus Williams, with whom she built one of the most successful partnerships this sport has ever seen.
The confirmation represents a new step in the competitive return of Serena, who had not competed in an individual draw since the 2022 US Open. In that edition she reached the third round before losing to the Australian Ajla Tomljanovic. Although she never officially announced her retirement, she remained away from professional activity for nearly four years.
Her return began recently in London during the Queen's tournament, where she reappeared in doubles partnering with Canadian Viktoria Mboko. The duo managed to win in their debut, although they later had to leave the competition due to a knee injury suffered by the Canadian player.
Wimbledon recovers one of its great protagonists
The presence of Serena in singles adds an element of expectation to an edition that will also feature her participation alongside Venus in doubles.
The youngest of the Williams sisters has accumulated seven individual titles at Wimbledon, the most recent being won in 2016. Her relationship with the London tournament made her for years one of the greatest references on grass and one of the most successful players in the history of the championship.
In the days following her competitive return, Serena continued to gain minutes in Europe. This week she competed again in Berlin, where she partnered Czech Karolina Muchova in the doubles draw. However, both were eliminated in the first round of the competition.
Participation in Wimbledon will represent her first appearance in the individual draw of the British Grand Slam since 2022. On that occasion, her journey ended in the debut after losing to the French Harmony Tan.
With 23 Grand Slam singles titles, Serena continues to be the second tennis player with the most victories of this type in history, only behind the Australian Margaret Court.
His return to the All England Club will now have a double presence: singles and doubles, in an edition that will once again bring together one of the most recognized families in world tennis.
