Authorities have reported that the accident occurred due to an operational error. They also ruled out leaks of flammable material
Qatar's Interior Ministry reported that an explosion caused by a "technical accident" occurred this Sunday at a factory in Ras Laffan, an industrial complex north of the capital, Doha, and home to the country's main liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing operations, in addition to being the largest LNG hub in the world.
After the explosion, the authorities have reported several injuries, while ruling out the possibility of any gas leak that threatens safety."
Technical error
The Qatari Ministry of the Interior did not give the exact location of the explosion, but it has been leaked to the press that the incident occurred at the Barzan gas plant, in Ras Laffan, and that it was due to an "operational error."
“An internal explosion occurred in one of the factories in the Ras Laffan industrial area following a technical incident, and civil defense teams have begun to respond to the incident,” the ministry said after the loud explosion was heard.
The statement indicated that civil defense teams were sent to the area after the explosion and that no fatalities or injuries were reported. Likewise, it indicated that, later, a fire broke out in the area where the factory is located.
