Steven Nelson affirms that Crawford power increased for fight with Canelo
Nelson said that Terence Crawford retains his speed and movement at the new weight, but the power of his punches is now better than before
Steven Nelson, Terence Crawford's training partner, affirmed that Terence Crawford's power increased with the size he has gained for the fight he will have with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez on September 13 in Las Vegas.
In an interview with FightHype, Nelson commented that Crawford retains his speed and movement at the new weight, but the power of his punches is now better than before.
“Bud is going to do something that nobody expected. A lot of the skeptics will say, 'Damn!' but they will always look for excuses. Now I feel like he is different. He has power now. He always had it, but now it is a different kind of power. He still has the speed, movement, and ability. It's crazy. Nothing has changed, man. You'll see. I wish it was tomorrow, September 13,” he said.
“Everyone will see it. It will be revolutionary. It will be like a spaceship landing on Earth. People don't know until they get in the ring. As Errol said, 'Bud's power is real.' That's what makes great people. They always do something unexpected,” he added.
According to experts' predictions, Terence Crawford will be at a disadvantage because of his weight and will not be able to defeat the Mexican, but others believe that size will not be a problem, since the American has the necessary skills to beat the 168-pound champion on his own turf.
After the confrontation with Cuban William Scull, where the Mexican fighter was criticized for his lackluster performance, many experts in the sport have changed their opinion and see Bud with real chances of winning because they think that the tapatio is in decline.
If the American wins, he would become a three-time undisputed champion in different weight classes and make history in the sport, while Canelo Alvarez could end Crawford's undefeated record and send him into retirement.
Terence Crawford, 38, became champion of four different divisions by defeating Israil Madrimov and remains one of the best pound for pound. The undisputed two-time American champion now has 41 wins, 31 of them by knockout.
For his part, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, 34, became the undisputed super middleweight champion for the second time after defeating William Scull and now has a record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), two losses and two draws in his professional career.
