The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) announced this Sunday that the championship will resume on January 7, after a provisional suspension adopted as a preventive measure following the recent security events in the country.

The decision was communicated through a message posted on the League's official Instagram account, which detailed that the main objective is to guarantee adequate conditions for players, staff, and fans.

In the statement, the LVBP indicated that, together with the participating teams, it will announce the restructuring of the game schedule “in due course,” in order to ensure the normal development of the competition. The also thanked “the fans and the media for their understanding and constant support of Venezuelan professional baseball organization,” in a context marked by uncertainty and the abrupt suspension of sporting activities.

The games had been suspended on Saturday, January 3, following a military operation carried out by the United States in Caracas and other areas of the country. According to information released by Venezuelan authorities, the operation included bombings and resulted in civilian and military casualties, although an official tally has not been provided. Amid this scenario, the LVBP opted to halt play in stadiums as a protective measure.

During the military operation, Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured and subsequently transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, a high-security federal prison located in New York.
