Vergil Ortiz Jr., the interim WBC super welterweight champion, wants to prove he's the best when he defends his title against Erickson Lubin on November 8 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
In an interview with Golden Boy Promotions, Ortiz Jr. stated that he wants to become the kind of fighter fans respect because he doesn't shy away from big challenges, and Lubin is one of them.
“I want to retire from the 154-pound division fighting everyone, just like I'm doing now. I want to fight all the champions. I want to prove to them that I'm the best. I want to prove it to everyone. Not just everyone, but especially to myself,” he declared.
“I want to see fighters who take on everyone. I want to be that kind of fighter. I want to be someone all the fans respect. I'm here to dominate the division. Champions, up-and-comers, it doesn't matter,” he added.
According to expert predictions, Vergil Ortiz Jr. is the favorite to win, but some think Erickson Lubin could make things difficult for the Mexican-American or see the fight as very evenly matched due to the skills of both fighters.
