Tragedy struck Baghlan province in Afghanistan on Friday as flash floods, triggered by relentless rains, claimed the lives of at least 50 individuals. Idayatullah Hamdard, the Provincial Director of Natural Disaster Management in Baghlan, revealed that the floods wreaked havoc on homes and properties, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Moreover, numerous individuals remain unaccounted for, leading to fears that the death toll could rise further.

Abdullah Janan Saik, spokesperson for the Natural Disaster Management Ministry, reported that the deluge also engulfed the capital city of Kabul. Rescue teams have been deployed to provide essential aid, including food, to affected areas. Officials are currently fully engaged in rescue operations, with priority placed on ensuring the safety of those affected. Accurate figures regarding casualties and the extent of damage caused by the floods are expected to be released once the situation stabilizes.

This latest disaster comes on the heels of previous flooding incidents last month, which claimed the lives of at least 70 people across the country. Additionally, approximately 2,000 houses, three mosques, and four schools suffered damage during the torrential rains and subsequent floods. The State Ministry for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs (SAC) has highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian assistance, as thousands of individuals find themselves in dire need of support amidst the devastation.
