Hospital affirms that California farm worker is alive after 30-foot fall during ICE raid
California cannabis farm worker on life support after chaotic federal immigration raid, previously reported dead
A farmworker at a Southern California cannabis farm is in critical condition after being seriously injured during a chaotic ICE raid, local officials said Friday.
The family of Mr. Jaime Alanis Garcia has authorized the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) to release the following information. Mr. Garcia is hospitalized at VCMC and remains in critical condition, VCMC said in a statement.
Family members said Alanis will likely remain on life support until his wife arrives from Mexico to be by his side.
His niece, who asked not to be identified, told KTLA that Alanis had been texting family members up until the time of the accident.
It was previously reported by the United Farm Workers union that a farmworker was killed in the ICE raid on a cannabis farm in Camarillo.
The union, in a series of posts on X on Friday, confirmed that some farmworkers were seriously injured during the ICE operation.
The man fell from the roof of a greenhouse while trying to flee from immigration agents, who raided the site early Thursday. Seven other people were taken away by ambulance after the operation.
Federal agents clashed with protesters during an immigration raid on a farm in Ventura, one of at least two large-scale raids in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, California, on Thursday.
Videos on social media showed dozens of workers running through the farm and climbing onto the roof of the crop to avoid arrest.
An unknown number of workers were reported missing in the operation, which also resulted in US citizens being detained, the union said.
The Los Angeles Times reported that at least 200 workers were detained.
