The next prime minister of Britain will be announced on Monday. Conservative Party members cast their vote by Friday evening to choose their new leader. On Monday, either Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak will be declared the winner. The winner will replace Boris Johnson, currently the Prime Minister of Britain.

Liz Truss, who is being mentioned next in the race for the post of Prime Minister, is the current Foreign Secretary. Studied in a government school, 47-year-old Truss's father was a mathematics professor and mother a nurse. Coming from a pro-Labor family, Truss studied philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford University. After completing his studies, he also worked as an accountant for some time. After that she got into politics. Truss was elected MP for the first time in 2010. Truss was initially against the issue of leaving the European Union. However, later came out in support of Boris Johnson, who emerged as the hero of Brexit. The British media often compares him to former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. 

The second contender in this race is Rishi Sunak of Indian origin. For 42 years, Sunak's family is originally from Punjab. His parents immigrated from East Africa to the UK in the 1960s. His father was a general practitioner and mother Usha was a pharmacist who ran a pharmacy. Sunak's early education was from Winchester, one of the most expensive schools in Britain. Like Truss, Sunak also studied philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University. Sunak became an MP for the first time in 2015 after earning millions of pounds from a hedge fund. Shortly after becoming MP, Brexit supporter Sunak was seen as a leader of the future. In February 2020, Sunak was made Finance Minister after Boris Johnson's victory. Like Truss, Sunak too has two daughters.  

Prime Minister Boris Johnson had to resign after losing the confidence of his party's MPs. After this the process of electing a new leader in the party started. There are two phases for the election of a leader in the Conservative Party. In the first phase, all MPs of the Conservative Party choose the leader of their choice. The candidate who gets the fewest votes is out of the race. Voting continues until there are no two candidates left. 

Initially eight contenders were in the fray. After the first round of voting by lawmakers, Jeremy Hunt and Nadeem Jahavi dropped out. Suella Braverman was eliminated after the second round of voting. After this, the claim of Tom Tugendhat and Kami Badenoch ended. Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss were the only two contenders left after Penny Mordent's exit in the fifth round. 

When only two candidates are left, they are voted on by all party members in the country. The voting process by postal ballot ended on September 2. Its results will come on Monday. Whoever wins in this will be the new leader of the party. This new leader will replace Boris Johnson as the next Prime Minister of Britain. 

Rishi Sunak was at the forefront during the voting of MPs. But, during the voting of party leaders, the truss is being told from the very beginning. In the most recent poll, Truss got 59% of the vote. At the same time, Sunak got only 32 percent votes. About 1.6 lakh leaders of the Conservative Party voted in this election. Which is about one and a half percent of the total electorate of the UK. If Truss wins, she will be the third woman after Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May to become Prime Minister of Britain. Before Liz Truss became prime minister, both women were also from the Conservative Party. 

Such an election for leadership was held in 2019. Then 10 candidates were in the fray. Boris Johnson and former Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt were the two candidates left after the first phase of voting. In the second phase, when party members cast their votes, Johnson got two-thirds of the vote. 

Outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson will transfer power to the winning leader. This transfer of power usually takes place at Buckingham Palace in London. This time it will be at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Actually Queen Elizabeth II is currently celebrating her summer vacation in Scotland. In view of his health, he has reduced his public appearance. He has no plans to return to London at the moment. Because of this the tradition of transfer of power has been broken. 

After the results, on Tuesday, Boris Johnson will make his last statement as Prime Minister from the Prime Minister's residence 10 Downing Street. After that he will go to Scotland. There Johnson will inform the Queen about his resignation. After this, whoever is the winner of Sunak and Truss will meet the Queen. He will be asked by the Queen to form the government. The appointment of the new prime minister will be recorded in royal records. 

The new Prime Minister will return to London as soon as the official appointment is made. Here will be the first speech of the new Prime Minister from 10 Downing Street. According to London time, after delivering the speech at around 4 pm, the Prime Minister will appoint his new cabinet. The first meeting of the new cabinet will be held on Wednesday. After this the Prime Minister will reach the House (House of Commons) for the first time.
