The “No Kings” day of action announced for Saturday, October 18, has surpassed the 2,110 protests and local demonstrations planned in all 50 states.

The movement has described this protest as a national day of peaceful mobilization to defend democracy, reject authoritarian excesses, and defend their communities.

The protests come in response to President Trump's increasing use of military force in American cities and the threat of a government shutdown with layoffs for thousands of workers.

Participants, coalitions, organizations and neighbors, critics of President Donald Trump's administration and defenders of democracy will gather in hundreds of cities that day, its organizers announced in a press release sent to La Opinion.

This means that the events of October 18 are on track to surpass the “No Kings” day of June 14, in which more than five million people protested in all 50 states, the coalition of organizations reported in a press release.

The October 18 day of action is the next step in this growing movement, channeling that energy into another coordinated and peaceful mobilization.

All No Kings events share a commitment to nonviolent protest and ensuring community safety. Organizers are trained in violence de-escalation and work closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and forceful actions across the country.

The coalition of organizations that make up this event has an online site to inform people, organize more events, and provide support to participants and organizers.

“As Trump escalates his attacks with occupations of American cities and secret police forces terrorizing American communities, everyday every people across the country are demonstrating day with courage and defiance. On October 18, “We will participate in the largest peaceful protest in modern American history," said Ezra Levin, co-founder and co-CEO of Indivisible. "Millions of people will come together in more cities than ever before to collectively say: There will never be kings in America again!”

“No Kings Day is about reclaiming what we've already built. Working people built this country, not billionaires,” said April Verrett, president of the Service Employees International Union. “We are protecting what we've built, and we are building what's next.” Let's go for it!”

“Nurses are proud to be part of the labor movement's long history of resisting tyranny, and we will continue to be part of that tradition as long as tyrants abuse their power,” said National Nurses United President Mary Turner, RN.

“The No Kings protests are an opportunity for we, the people, to resist the rampant abuses of power this government commits daily, which continue to attack the pillars of our free society,” said Deirdre Schifeling, ACLU policy and advocacy director.

In a “toolkit” document for organizers posted on their website, Indivisible and the coalition of more than 200 groups overseeing the events provided instructions on how to gather and record their own protests, but asked organizers not to schedule any events in Washington, DC, to make other locations the “center of gravity” and because the coalition seeks to draw a contrast to Trump.

Groups organizing the peaceful No Kings protests across the country includes the ACLU, the American Federation of Teachers, Common Defense, 50501, the Human Rights Campaign, Indivisible, the League of Conservation Voters, MoveOn, National Nurses United, Public Citizen, SEIU, and United We Dream, among others.

Why is it called “No Kings”?

The “No Kings” theme was orchestrated by the 50501 Movement, a national movement made up of everyday Americans defending democracy and opposing what they call the authoritarian actions of the Trump administration. The name 50501 stands for 50 states, 50 protests, one movement.
