CIA in Mexico warns about Dan Crenshaw's behavior related to alcohol consumption
Crenshaw rejected the version and argued that he only had a toast with generals, but did not clarify the three-month ban on international travel
Representative Dan Crenshaw, Republican from Texas, received a three-month ban on international travel, according to the Punchbowl News website, after an alcohol-related incident during a delegation trip to Mexico
According to the newspaper, CIA officials in Mexico City sent a cable to the agency's headquarters in Langley, Virginia, alarmed by the Republican's behavior during a congressional delegation meeting in August. Given the report, CIA officials expressed concern about Crenshaw's apparently unprofessional behavior related to alcohol consumption and decorum in the presence of Mexican officials. The report coincides with Crenshaw's stay in Mexico in August as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee's cartel task force. Crenshaw allegedly "toasted" a "crude" joke made by a Mexican official in August that made a woman present feel "uncomfortable." Details about the alleged joke have not been released. However, Punchbowl reports that it was so serious that Republican Representative Rick Crawford, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, urged President Mike Johnson to remove Crenshaw from an anti-narcotics panel. Following the revelation, Crenshaw himself criticized the Punchbowl report in a series of posts on X, insisting that his October trip was not canceled due to a travel ban. “Once again, we are faced with the usual media strategy: publishing sensational stories based on anonymous sources and incorrect facts,” he insisted. He added that the report would not clarify that the alleged incident was "a toast with Mexican generals... I'm sorry, I wish I had a better story to tell you about my time in Mexico. But the truth is, in fact, very boring." Super shocked.”
However, Jake Sherman, one of the Punchbowl journalists who broke the travel ban story, responded to Crenshaw by also calling his posts “clickbait.”
“Big problem with this clickbait tweet: his committee chairman banned Crenshaw from traveling abroad on public funds for 90 days,” he stated.
