Venezuelan government officials reportedly helped monitor the location of President Nicolas Maduro, according to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as reported by the New York Times.
The CIA, sources indicated, produced the intelligence that led to Maduro's arrest by monitoring his movements and lifestyle, the New York Times reported.
Agents in Venezuela, working clandestinely since August 2025, gathered key data that allowed the operation to be planned precisely.
It has not been clarified how the Venezuelan source who facilitated Maduro's location was recruited.
However, former officials indicated that the $50 million reward offered by the United States for information leading to his capture may have contributed to obtaining the necessary cooperation.
Although the CIA played a central role in gathering intelligence and planning the mission, the operation was executed by U.S. military special operations forces under law enforcement authority, and not as a direct mission of the agency.
Officials consulted by U.S. media described the operation as The operation was the product of “months of meticulous planning,” and they emphasized that Maduro was “under intervention” from the beginning of the operation. EFE
