Despite meeting with Trump, Ukraine reports successful attacks to Russian refineries
The General Staff of Kyiv indicated that the attack on the Sirzan refinery caused a fire and the damage is still being assessed
Ukrainian Armed Forces claimed on Sunday to have struck the Russian Sirzan refinery in the Samara region with a drone attack, causing a fire.
“To reduce the economic and military potential of the Russian aggressor, members of the Ukrainian defense forces attacked the Sirzan refinery in the Samara region of the Russian Federation. A drone attack followed by a fire was recorded,” the Armed Forces said on their Facebook page.
The message emphasized that the refinery, with a capacity of between 7 and 8.9 million tons, is involved in supplying the Russian aggressor army.
The attack on the facility caused a fire, and the damage is still being assessed, according to a statement from the General Staff in Kyiv.
The same message reported an attack on a depot in the occupied Crimean Peninsula and another on a workshop in the occupied part of Luhansk.
Missiles against Novoshakhtinsk refinery
It also reported a “successful attack” against the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery in Russia’s Rostov region, which borders Ukraine to the west, using Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles.
“Numerous explosions were recorded. We hit the target. The extent of the damage is being determined,” the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces wrote on its Telegram channel.
In the brief statement, it asserted that the Novoshakhtinsk refinery is one of the largest suppliers of petroleum products in southern Russia and provides the Russian military with diesel fuel and aviation kerosene.
