Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, said on Monday that cooperation with the United States would only be possible if it stops its support for Israel, withdraws all its military bases from the region, and ceases its intervention in the Middle East. And even in that scenario, this cooperation would not occur “in the near future, but at a later time,” the religious leader said.

“Only if the United States completely ceases its support for the accursed Zionist regime, withdraws all its military bases from the region, and stops interfering in its affairs, could its request for cooperation with Iran be considered,” Khamenei said at a meeting with students, university students, and relatives of those killed in the 12-day war last June.

The leader stated that “the arrogant nature of the United States accepts nothing but submission, something all American presidents have desired, even if they did not express it openly. However, the current president made it clear, thus revealing the true essence of the United States.”

“Day of Pride”

He made these statements during the celebrations for the anniversary of the takeover of the US embassy in Tehran in 1979.

Regarding this, Khamenei He described the takeover of the diplomatic headquarters as a “day of pride and victory,” since the compound was “a nest of plots” against the Islamic Revolution. Following the occupation of the embassy, ??Iran held 52 American diplomats hostage for 44 days, triggering a spiral of tension between the two countries that continues to this day. In mid-June of this year, Iran and Israel also engaged in a bombing campaign, which ended on the 24th of that month with a cessation of hostilities. “If our country becomes stronger and our enemies realize that confronting this powerful nation will not bring results, but rather losses, the country will certainly gain immunity,” the leader added. This Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Ismail Baghaei stated that his country exchanges messages with the United States through intermediaries. But he asserted that there are no plans to resume nuclear negotiations with his rival.
