Los Angeles seeks to create ICE-free zones to protect residents
The Board of Supervisors urged its lawyers to draft an ordinance to create 'ICE-free zones' to prevent the use of its facilities by federal agents
Los Angeles County is moving forward with establishing spaces free from the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
The county Board of Supervisors instructed its lawyers to draft an ordinance to create “ICE-free zones ICE” and not allow county-owned facilities to be used as staging areas or processing centers by federal immigration authorities.
The motion, introduced by Supervisors Lindsey Horvath and Hilda Solis, is inspired by an October executive order from Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson prohibiting immigration authorities from using city properties during their operations.
