Although he recognized the Kazakh's solidity as a monarch, he noted that the management of his career facilitated his historical rise.
The analysis emerged from a review of the boxers who receive more credit than, according to their view, they deserve in the ring. On The Wild Project channel, Maravilla Martínez explained his stance on the Kazakh.
“Golovkin is a super champion, yes, of course, I'm not going to say no. But when he faced, for example, Daniel Jacobs, cr "I think they gave him a draw or I don't know if they gave him the winner... (Jacobs) made a great fight, with tactics," the South American said.
Questions about the level of the opposition
For the Quilmeño boxer, the key to the perception of the Kazakh lies in the characteristics of his regular opponents. According to Maravilla Martínez, many of the fighters who succumbed to the power of Golovkin didn't naturally belong to the 160 pound division or were already at the end of their professional phase. This would have directly influenced the visual impact of their fast-track victories.
When delving into the reasons why he considers there is an inflated perception about the former champion, the Argentine was clear regarding the difference in weight and physical momentum. Maravilla Martínez added in the same interview: “See Golovkin and many of the rivals he had in his prime were guys whose crushed their whole body; many were finished or were welterweights raised to-midweight. So, for me,Golovkin is one of the guys who is overrated.”
The opinion on the career of Saúl Álvarez
The debate was not limited only to the boxer from Kazakhstan, since the figure of Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez was also addressed. In regard, Maravilla Martínez placed the Mexican among the best in history, but I agree It was that his path was structured with a strategic selection of times and rivals. For the Argentine, the success of Tapatío responds to a planning that avoided unnecessary risks in moments of vulnerability.
On this point, the former champion highlighted that the Mexican's career was managed to face his opponents in the ideal scenario. "To just faced those he had to face, in the just position that had to arrive. Such rival arrived and couldn't have been a year before, because a year before perhaps would have hurt him."
