New York City Councilman Filmed ICE Agents Violently Arresting Man on Street
Video shows alleged ICE agents violently arresting a man from a car in Washington Heights, New York City
A video shared on social media by a lawmaker shows alleged masked ICE agents violently dragging a man from a car in a dramatic scene recorded in New York City on Wednesday morning, while bystanders filmed them and one of them yelled, “Show us!” "Their faces!".
According to a spokesperson for the office of Democratic Councilman Shaun Abreu, who represents the city's 7th Ward, someone even called the police when masked officers were trying to remove the man from a car.
"What?" the man yells during the struggle, according to a video posted on X by Abreu.
"This video of someone being forcibly removed from the street in front of our neighbors is deeply disturbing," Abreu said in a statement. “ICE and other federal agencies that are carrying out Trump’s agenda of detaining people without due process have no place in our city.” NYPD officers responded briefly to another situation involving ICE agents in the area, according to police sources cited by local media. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting incident in which four armed men were pulling another man from a car, according to police. After attempting to intervene to stop what appeared to be a fight, the officers had to withdraw when they were informed that the masked men with guns were ICE agents. Comptroller Brad Lander, who serves as the city’s chief financial officer, has criticized ICE operations for months and told amNewYork on Wednesday that he believes this could be the start of more street-level ICE raids. “We are seeing more and more “More similar cases here, like those seen in Chicago, Los Angeles, and other places,” Lander stated. “How can one determine, based on that video, whether it was a legitimate and legal arrest?”"Something we could reject and don't want to happen, but that was at least carried out by legitimate federal agents in accordance with the law? Or if it's, you know, people in disguise kidnapping other people without any legal basis?" Lander commented.
