North Korea demands explanation; to Seoul over drone incursion
Pyongyang claims drone crossed its border from South Korean city of Ganghwa into North Korean city of Kaesong
Kim Yo-jong, the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, demanded a detailed “explanation” from the South regarding the alleged incursion of a drone into its territory, state media reported Sunday.
According to Pyongyang, the drone crossed the border on Saturday from the South Korean city of Ganghwa into the North Korean city of Kaesong, and it released images of the wreckage of the aircraft it claims to have shot down.
Seoul rejected the claim, and its Defense Ministry stated that the drone is a model that its military does not operate.
“Fortunately, the DRC (South Korean) military officially stated that it did not carry out (the incursion) and that it had no intention of provoking or irritating us,” Kim Yo-jong said in a statement carried by the official KCNA news agency.
“A swift investigation and rigorous”
“But they must give a detailed explanation about the case of a drone that crossed the southern border of our Republic,” Kim Yo-Jong added, according to KCNA.
In response to the North's accusations, the South Korean military stated that its own investigation revealed that it “does not possess the unmanned aerial vehicle in question, nor did it operate an unmanned aerial vehicle at the time and date indicated by North Korea.”
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung ordered a “swift and investigation investigation” on Saturday by a joint military and police team.
