Oscar De La Hoya Foundation delivers more than 700 turkeys in its 26th Turkey Giveaway
Golden Boy boxers and students from Animo Charter High School teamed up to support LA families on their traditional Thanksgiving Day.
The Oscar De La Hoya Foundation held its 26th annual Turkey Giveaway this weekend, a traditional Thanksgiving food and turkey giveaway that this year benefited more than 700 families in East Los Angeles Angeles.
The event was supported by student leaders from Oscar De La Hoya Animo Charter High School and featured the participation of several Golden Boy figures, who helped with food distribution. Among them were WBA and WBC unified flyweight champion Ricardo “El Nino” Sandoval (27-2, 18 KOs); NABO title holder Alexis “Lex” Rocha (25-2-1, 16 KOs); as well as Jorge “El Nino Dorado” Chavez (14-0-1, 8 KOs), Federico Pacheco (9-0, 6 KOs), Fabian Guzman (8-0, 7 KOs), and Johnny “Sugarcane” Canas (8-0, 3 KOs).
Although the event had logistical support from various organizations, the emphasis remained on the need to strengthen community solidarity, especially in a year in which the rising cost of living has impacted numerous families in the area.
A Tradition of Community Service
The Oscar De La Hoya Foundation, created in 1995, promotes community activities throughout the year, including food drives, support for local education, and collaborations with health centers in East Los Angeles. Its objective, as the organization has stated on several occasions, is to contribute to improving the quality of life in a region where many families face economic limitations and unequal access to essential services.
