According to PBS SoCal, “Legends of Lucha Libre” focuses on the career of Rey Misterio Sr., a Tijuana wrestling icon whose hybrid style helped shape the scene both on the border and in the arenas of Southern California.
The series recaptures the wrestler's impact through interviews with key voices in the sport: his son El Hijo de Rey Misterio, wrestlers Lady Lee and Zyra La Toxica, and journalist Chema Castro, as well as Rey Misterio Sr. himself in archival footage and recorded conversations. The goal is to show how their legacy lives on in the wrestling rings of Los Angeles and in various Mexican-American communities along the US-Mexico border.
