Pochettino and Xavi, among candidates to be the new Manchester United manager
After the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, the Old Trafford club is looking for its new manager
Xavi now and Pochettino as a strong option for the summer
Among the immediately available alternatives is Xavi Hernandez. The former Barcelona coach, who won La Liga in the 2022-23 season, is currently without a club after leaving Camp Nou at the end of the 2023-24 season and has expressed interest in working in the Premier League. His availability and experience at a high-pressure club make him a real option, although there are doubts at Old Trafford due to his lack of experience in English football and the heavy schedule involved in competing in the top flight.
Looking at a longer-term scenario, Mauricio Pochettino's name is once again gaining traction.
The current US national team coach is under contract until after the World Cup, but sources consulted by ESPN indicate that the Argentine coach would be open to returning to club management once his international commitments are fulfilled. It wouldn't be the first time United has considered him.The club has already considered him three times in the last decade and he was a finalist in the 2022 selection process. Beyond Pochettino and Xavi, the list of candidates includes options for an immediate solution. Oliver Glasner, manager of Crystal Palace, stands out for his recent FA Cup title and for having won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022. Kieran McKenna, current manager of Ipswich Town and with a past in the United coaching staff, is also among the names being considered.
