Puerto Rico Avenue to be named after Carlos Beltran, elected to the Hall of Fame
After his arrival in Cooperstown, Puerto Rico will honor one of his best baseball players
The Puerto Rico House of Representatives unanimously approved a resolution this Wednesday to name two important avenues in the country in honor of emblematic figures of Puerto Rican culture and sports: former Major League Baseball player Carlos Beltran and urban artist Daddy Yankee. The initiative was celebrated as institutional recognition of the impact and legacy of both artists locally and internationally. According to the official statement released by legislative authorities, one of the measures designates the entirety of State Highway PR-36, located in San Juan, as “Daddy Yankee.” The decision seeks to pay tribute to the artistic career and “dedication to culture” of Ramon Luis Ayala Rodriguez, the birth name of the renowned performer, considered one of the most influential figures in the history of reggaeton. The second resolution approved names a section of Highway PR-670, which runs in front of the Acropolis in Manati, the former baseball player's hometown in the north of the island, as Carlos Ivan Beltran Avenue. The recognition is directly linked to his recent election to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, one of the highest honors in professional sports. Authorities announced that an official event will be held to unveil the new name of the avenue and install the corresponding road signs. This process will be carried out by the Department of Transportation and Public Works, in coordination with the municipal government of Manati. Two careers that made history: Daddy Yankee announced his retirement from the stage in 2022 after more than 30 years in the music industry, a decision that culminated in a final concert in December 2023. Subsequently, the artist announced that he would dedicate his life to Christian music. Even so, in July he returned with a new single titled "Sonriele" (Smile at Her), under the stage name DY, marking a new stage in his personal and creative journey. Meanwhile, Carlos Beltran, 48, was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on January 20th. Becoming the sixth player born in Puerto Rico to achieve the prestigious Cooperstown recognition. The former outfielder had a 20-season career in the Major Leagues and was recognized as one of the most outstanding switch-hitters of his generation. Beltran led the voting conducted by the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) for the class of 2026, receiving 358 votes out of a total of 425 valid ballots, representing 84.2% of the support.
