Thousands of University of California workers began a two-day statewide strike on Monday due to a dispute during contract negotiations.

Represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the workers launched the walkout at all facilities of the state university.

Workers say their paychecks are not keeping pace with inflation, leaving them struggling to meet their basic needs and afford housing near their jobs.
