An accident in the province of Misiones in Argentina left at least nine dead and 29 injured
A serious traffic accident shocked the province of Misiones, Argentina, early Sunday morning, when a double-decker bus belonging to the Sol del Norte company fell from a bridge into the Yaza stream, leaving nine people dead and at least 29 injured.
The accident occurred around At 4:30 am this Sunday, October 26, on National Route 14, at the kilometer mark between Obera and Campo Viera, in northeastern Argentina.
According to police sources, the bus, carrying around 50 passengers, collided head-on with a Ford Focus before plunging into the stream. At the time, the area was covered in dense fog, which would have significantly reduced visibility on the road.
Accident leaves nine dead and injured
The Misiones Police confirmed that the fatalities are three women and six men, whose identities have already been verified. All the bodies were transferred to the SAMIC Hospital in Obera for forensic procedures and subsequent release to their families.
Meanwhile, the 29 injured, aged between 5 and 67, were treated at the hospitals in Obera and Campo Viera. Four of the patients had to be transferred to the Madariaga Hospital in Posadas due to the severity of their injuries.
Rescue work and forensic analysis underway
Rescue teams, road safety personnel, forensic experts, and Misiones police officers continue to work at the scene of the accident, with the support of public health agencies and the provincial government. Rescuers reported that they managed to evacuate everyone from the upper deck of the bus, although work continued on the lower level, where passengers remained trapped.
Lack of passenger list and causes under investigation
Authorities indicated that the transport company did not have the official passenger list, which makes the process of identifying the victims and injured difficult.The police are working in coordination with health centers and judicial offices to clarify the incident.
The bus had departed from Obera bound for Puerto Iguazu, making stops in intermediate towns such as Dos de Mayo.
The causes of the accident are still under investigation, although low visibility due to fog and the impact with the private vehicle are the factors being analyzed as possible triggers of the tragedy.
