USCIS activates Operation PARRIS to re-examine thousands of refugee cases in Minnesota
Thousands of refugees in Minnesota are under scrutiny by the federal government as Operation PARRIS is activated
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) launched Operation PARRIS (Post-Admission Refugee Re-examination and Integrity Strengthening) in Minnesota, an initiative focused on re-examining thousands of cases of refugees awaiting a response to their applications for residency in the United States.
The federal government's approach is to thoroughly analyze any suspicious background of foreigners linked to possible cases of fraud and other crimes that could serve as an excuse to end their stay in the country.
In this way, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) would be responsible for reviewing the status of approximately 5,600 refugees residing in Minnesota, who have not yet obtained legal permanent residency (green card).
It should be noted that Operation PARRIS involves applying enhanced control standards under Executive Order 14161 and Presidential Proclamation 10949.
Based on this, federal agencies are required to identify and implement improvements in controls on the entry of foreigners into the United States that allow for the protection of the nation from terrorists and threats to public safety.
Through a statement, a DHS warned that the objective of Operation PARRIS is to detect foreign nationals who have benefited from alleged fraud at the expense of US citizens.
“Minnesota is ground zero in the war on fraud. This operation in Minnesota demonstrates that the Trump administration will not stand idly by while the US immigration system is weaponized by those seeking to defraud the American people. American citizens and the rule of law come first, always,” he stated.
Based on this, it is projected that, in the coming weeks,Thousands of Refugees living in Minnesota could be interviewed to verify the merits of their asylum claims and determine whether or not they should be referred to ICE. If the federal agency determines that a refugee has committed immigration fraud, deportation proceedings will begin immediately.
