Lyft allows passengers to choose their favorite drivers
Lyft launches feature to mark drivers as favorites and personalize future travel experiences by choosing them again: when this option starts
For all those drivers who leave good impressions among their passengers, due to the safety and efficiency of the service they provide, they can now be selected as favorites within the Lyft ridesharing platform. This new feature will be available soon in the United States and Canada.
Lyft introduced a new feature that allows passengers to select their favorite drivers, completely transforming the way people experience their rides. This innovation will begin rolling out in the US and Canada before the end of August. The ridesharing platform's main goal is to offer more personalized and safe rides, while strengthening the bond between users and drivers.
Thanks to this feature, users will be able to mark a driver as a "favorite" after a positive experience. This not only makes it easier to match up with the same person on future trips, but also gives passengers more control over key aspects like the ride's atmosphere, the way they receive their ride, and even small gestures that can make a difference.
"Did you have an amazing ride? You can now mark that driver as a 'favorite' so we can try to connect you with them again," the platform notes in its introductory statement. "After a great ride, simply tap to add them to your favorites. For your next scheduled rides, we'll prioritize connecting you with your favorites whenever possible."
Within the announcement, Lyft featured a story that exemplifies this approach, sharing the "human connection" that Carmyn Taylor-Jones, a driver in Pittsburgh, had with her passenger, Diamond. What began as an occasional service has grown into a friendship with more than 100 shared rides, the company says.
The option to select favorite drivers not only benefits the passenger. It also represents an opportunity for the drivers. Those marked as favorites will receive notifications and will be given priority to accept scheduled ride requests from those users. Lyft says this move reinforces recognition for those who provide outstanding service and opens the door to higher earnings. Lyft is also strengthening its commitment to safety. Along with this new feature, the ability to block drivers directly from the app is also being launched, allowing users to avoid future pairings with drivers they didn't feel comfortable with. This feature is a first for the ridesharing industry.
As part of this comprehensive approach, the company also created the Lyft Safety Center, where users can manage features like audio recording, PIN verification, and other key settings for safer, more secure rides.
This announcement comes on the heels of Uber launching a pilot allowing female passengers to choose female drivers. In response, Lyft notes that it already has its own Women+ Connect program, a similar alternative designed to offer greater confidence and comfort to women and non-binary people.
In the ridesharing competition, when it comes to tools that meet passengers' safety needs, Lyft appears to be positioning itself ahead of Uber. Not only does it improve the travel experience, but it's driving a shift toward more human and authentic relationships within its platform.
Those who want to start enjoying this more personalized experience should make sure they have the updated app. In the coming weeks, these features will be progressively available, providing a new dimension of closeness and trust between drivers and passengers.
