A name with history and meaning
Far from choosing a name at random, Bentley was once again inspired by an emblematic place to name one of its models. Torcal refers to El Torcal de Antequera, in Andalusia, a renowned natural area famous for its impressive limestone rock formations.
The brand thus maintains a tradition that it had already followed with models such as Bentayga, Bacalar and Batur, all related to places of great geographical or cultural value.
In addition, Bentley explained that the name is also related to the Latin verb “torquere”, origin of the English word “torque”, a clear allusion to the immediate delivery of torque that characterizes electric motors.
An SUV designed to open a new stage
For now, Bentley has only shown a partial image of the vehicle. The preview allows us to appreciate the rear of the SUV, where stylized taillights stand out with a light signature inspired by diamond shapes and a darkened emblem that provides a more contemporary appearance.
The silhouette confirms that it will not be a sedan or a coupe. The brand opted for a family format, with a body with elegant lines and a roof that extends to the tailgate to offer ample interior space.
Technology shared with Porsche
Although the company still keeps most of the specifications under wraps, it is already known that the Torcal will use the same technical base as the future Porsche Cayenne Electric. This architecture will allow the incorporation of an 800-volt electrical system, designed to offer fast charges and a high level of performance.
The SUV is also expected to have two electric motors and four-wheel drive, a configuration that will seek to maintain the balance between luxury, comfort and performance that characterizes Bentley.
Within the range, the new Torcal will occupy a step below the Bentayga with a combustion engine. The strategy will allow the brand to offer a smaller electric alternative without giving up the level of refinement that its customers expect.
Everything indicates that the cabin will retain the handcrafted finishes, top quality materials and attention to detail that distinguish Bentley.
