BMW M340i 50 Jahre: a modern tribute to the 3 Series
The 50 Jahre Edition combines historical details, exclusive equipment and a closed configuration that positions it as a unique piece
Over five decades, the BMW 3 Series has defined an important part of the brand's sporting DNA. To mark this milestone, BMW decided to create a very special version of the M340i xDrive, conceived not only as a visual tribute, but as a statement of the legacy that accompanies the German firm's most influential sedan.
Unlike other limited editions, this offering doesn't seek to reinvent the model, but rather to pay homage to its evolution through carefully selected elements.
From the heritage colors to the fully loaded equipment, every detail of the 50 Jahre Edition aims to reinforce the connection between past and present.
A design steeped in history
The aesthetics of the M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition rely primarily on a palette of five historic colors that evoke different generations of the 3 Series. Ruby Red is associated with the pioneering E21, while Boston Green is reminiscent of the legendary E30. Avus Blue pays tribute to the E36, Carbon Black evokes the sporty spirit of the E46, and Sparkling Graphite connects directly with the refined E90. These colors not only reinforce the nostalgia but also make each unit a direct nod to the model's history. As a complement, BMW incorporates the Shadowline package with darkened details, an M Performance carbon fiber spoiler, and 19-inch 792M wheels, in addition to blacked-out exhaust tips that enhance the sporty presence. At the rear appears the "50 Jahre Edition" badge, an exclusive element that marks the vehicle's raison d'etre and differentiates this variant from the rest of the range. An interior designed for a unique occasion. Inside the cabin, BMW opted for an elegant yet sporty atmosphere. The Merino upholstery, available in Ivory, Black or Tartufo, makes its debut in a 3 Series sold in the United States, highlighting the level of exclusivity behind the project.
To reinforce the commemorative character, the brand added carbon fiber inserts, a Harman Kardon sound system, and a head-up display.
Everything comes standard, as this edition is sold in a completely fixed configuration. Thus, the customer only needs to choose the exterior color and the shade of the M sport brakes.
M Performance with a Farewell Flavor
The sporty essence of the M340i remains intact in this special edition. Its inline six-cylinder engine with TwinPower Turbo technology produces 386 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque.
Paired with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, it is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds.
The model retains the precision of the 3 Series chassis, reinforced with sport suspension and mild-hybrid technology to improve efficiency without compromising responsiveness. The result is a vehicle that combines history with fully modern performance.
A limited edition to close a chapter
The launch of the M340i xDrive 50 Jahre Edition coincides with the end of production for the G20 generation, which will soon give way to the new 3 Series. To mark this closing, BMW decided to manufacture this variant in limited quantities, increasing its appeal to collectors.
The price in the US market starts at $75,200, not including processing fees. This places it very close to the cost of an entry-level BMW M3, but with a different focus: less radical, more commemorative, and with a level of exclusivity that will not be repeated.
