A Ford Bronco can be perfectly parked and still hide a problem that its owners probably can't detect with the naked eye. Ford has identified a fault in the engine compartment wiring that could end up causing a fire.

The recall affects certain units from model years 2021 to 2026 sold in the United States. The concern is related to the electrical harness, which can come into contact with other components and suffer wear to its protective coating.

If the cover ends up deteriorating, the cables may be exposed. Under certain circumstances this could cause a short circuit, arc, and generate enough heat or sparks to ignite flammable materials.

There are signs that drivers can detect

Ford has identified some signs that could appear before the situation becomes more serious. These include smoke that reaches the passenger compartment through the ventilation outlets, warning messages and the smell of burning material.

Smoke or even fire could also appear on the passenger side of the engine compartment.

In the event of any of these signs, the recommendation is to stop the Bronco in a safe place and act with caution. Ford assures that, so far, it has no confirmed reports of accidents or injuries related to this defect.

The company did record 15 incidents in which the fire could have been related to the harness. These cases were reported between October 2024 and June 2026.

Ford already has the repair prepared

The solution does not contemplate replacing the entire electrical system. Dealers will install additional protection around the harness, accompanied by abrasion-resistant tape.

The goal is to prevent the wiring from continuing to rub against nearby parts, thereby reducing the chances of the insulation wearing away and the conductors becoming exposed. The repair will be free for the owners of the affected vehicles.

Notifications will arrive in August

Ford will begin distributing technical instructions to dealers on July 23, 2026. Starting on that same date, owners will be able to check by VIN number if their Bronco is included in the recall.

Notification letters will be sent between August 24 and 28, 2026.

For now, the automaker insists that there are no confirmed accidents or injuries linked to this defect. However, the 15 recorded incidents explain why Ford decided to act before a seemingly small electrical fault could end up becoming a much more serious problem.
