The exchange rate began this Thursday with favorable movements for the Mexican peso, after a day in which the markets reacted both to the trade decisions of the United States and to new economic indicators. The average price of the dollar in Mexico today is $17.54 pesos per unit. During the previous session, the Mexican currency lost 0.42% against the greenback, after the United States decision related to the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC) was announced.
According to the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), the official closing on Wednesday, July 1, was $17.5485 pesos per dollar, based on the average of bank transactions. However, due to the continuous operation of the exchange market, the exchange rate ended around $17.56 pesos per unit.
According to data from Dow Jones, at the opening this Thursday the dollar was quoted on average at $17.46 Mexican pesos, a decrease of 0.52% compared to the previous close. In weekly terms, the US currency accumulates a decline of 0.26% and, compared to the same period in 2025, it registers a fall of 7.49%.
Meanwhile, exchange rate volatility is located at 5.4%, below the reference of 7.53%, reflecting a relatively stable market.
Banxico reported that the FIX exchange rate published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) for this Thursday was established at $17.5368 pesos per dollar. Likewise, the exchange rate for the payment of obligations denominated in foreign currency was set at $17.4693 pesos per unit.
The FIX exchange rate is a reference used in various financial and commercial operations. Its calculation is made based on the average of the quotes observed in the wholesale exchange market during banking business days and is published at noon of the previous business day.
Dollar exchange rate today in Mexican banks

Among the institutions analyzed, bank quotes show that BBVA México offers the lowest sales price, which is favorable for those who want to buy dollars. For its part, Banamex maintains the best purchase price, which means that they pay you more for your greenbacks today.
In banks in Mexico and the northern border, the dollar is sold on average for $17.84 pesos and purchased for $16.71 pesos. In the exchange offices of Tamaulipas, the sale is around $17.50 pesos and the purchase is $16.50 pesos.
In companies dedicated to international money sending there are also differences in the exchange rate. For this Thursday, Western Union quotes the dollar at $17.97 Mexican pesos, while MoneyGram sets the exchange rate at $18.12 pesos per dollar.

Employment in the US and oil set the course for the markets
Markets also reacted to the US jobs report. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that 57,000 jobs were created during June, while the unemployment rate remained stable at 4.2%. The figure was below what economists expected, although the labor market continued to show growth.
On the other hand, international oil prices extended their decline and reached their lowest level in four months, following progress in negotiations between the United States and Iran. A barrel of Brent is trading at $70.90 dollars, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) operates at $67.88 dollars.
