Social Security: people who won't receive their payment in March
A group of beneficiaries will not receive their payment in March due to an adjustment in the Social Security calendar. Find out if it affects you and the key dates for 2026
If you depend on Social Security to cover basic expenses, March could bring a surprise. How you take it will depend on you, because the truth is that for some it may be interpreted as something bad and for others as something positive. It is not a cut or a suspension of benefits. It's a calendar adjustment that will leave a specific group without a deposit that month. The measure affects those who receive the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. This benefit is administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA) and is intended for low-income individuals over 65, as well as people who are blind or have disabilities. In 2026, the maximum monthly SSI payment is $994 for individuals and $1,491 for couples. The average check is around $737, according to official Social Security data. Why won't there be an SSI payment in March? SSI is normally paid on the first day of each month. However, when that date falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the deposit is moved to the previous business day. In 2026, March 1st falls on a Sunday. For that reason, the corresponding payment will be sent on Friday, February 27.
This means that beneficiaries will receive their money, but it will arrive a few days earlier. As a result, there will not be a second deposit during March. This is the third consecutive month in which the SSI payment has been brought forward, as the corresponding deposits for January and February also fell on a holiday or weekend.
The schedule returns to normal in April. That month's payment is scheduled for April 1.
Other months with double payments in 2026
This adjustment will not only occur in March. Throughout 2026, there will be several months with double deposits and others with no payments.
In July, for example, beneficiaries will receive money on July 1 and again on July 31. That second deposit corresponds to the August benefit. Therefore, there will be no payment in August.
Something similar will happen in October.
Checks will be sent on October 1st and 30th. The payment on the 30th will cover November,so there will be no deposit that month.
The year will close with payments on December 1st and 31st. The deposit on the 31st will be for January 1st, 2027.

Based on these dates, you should plan your personal finances, because an advance payment also means more time to wait for the next one. If you are not aware of this, the satisfaction of receiving an advance can easily turn into frustration when you run out of money sooner than expected. That's why, as we said at the beginning: for some it's great news; for others, it's very bad; And, we would add, for some third parties it's a way to anticipate and prevent.
