The price of the dollar in Mexico began this Friday, July 17, with a slight rebound against the Mexican peso, after the US currency regained ground in international markets during the previous day.
At the opening this Friday, the US dollar was quoted at $17.51 Mexican pesos, an increase of 0.48% compared to the previous close of $17.42 pesos, according to Dow Jones data. However, the average price of the greenback during the day is $17.44 pesos per dollar.
Although the daily advance favored the US currency, the medium-term behavior continues to show a different picture. In the last seven days, the dollar accumulates a gain of 0.21%, but compared to the same period last year it registers a fall of 6.38%, reflecting the depreciation it has experienced against the Mexican peso during the last twelve months.
For its part, the Mexican peso fell during Thursday's session due to the global strengthening of the dollar. The national currency registered losses of 0.23%, a movement that allowed the greenback to recover part of the ground lost in previous days and link two consecutive days of appreciation against the Mexican currency.
The Bank of Mexico (Banxico) reported that the official closing on Thursday, July 16, was $17.4223 pesos per dollar, a figure that corresponds to the average of operations carried out between banking institutions during the day. However, as the exchange rate continues to move throughout the day, the price against the peso ended around $17.45 pesos per dollar in the markets.
The recent volatility of the exchange rate was 6.36%, below the reference volatility of 7.56%. When this indicator remains below its historical average, it usually reflects a market with fewer fluctuations and relatively stable behavior in the short term.
Likewise, Banxico reported that the FIX exchange rate, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), was established at $17.4418 pesos per dollar for this Friday, July 17. This value serves as a reference for various contracts, financial operations and official procedures, in addition to being published at noon on the previous business day.
Meanwhile, the exchange rate for the payment of obligations denominated in foreign currency was set at $17.3910 pesos per dollar. This value is used when a person or company must settle an obligation agreed in dollars within Mexico, in accordance with the provisions of current legislation.
