What began as a public event to watch the match between the Mexican National Team and Ecuador in the 2026 World Cup ended in tragedy, after an armed commando broke into a fan fest held in the community of Rancho Nuevo, in the municipality of Yautepec, and opened fire on the attendees.
The attack occurred Tuesday night at a community court, where dozens of people were watching the broadcast of the encounter when several armed men entered the place and fired multiple shots.
The preliminary balance is three dead and nine injured, according to the Attorney General's Office of the State of Morelos.
Among the fatalities is Miguel Tijera, husband of Sandy Hernández, candidate for the municipal presidency of Yautepec, who was also injured during the assault.
Another woman died at the site, while a 17-year-old girl lost her life while being transported to a hospital due to the severity of her injuries. Among the injured, there are also reports of minors.

For her part, Governor Margarita González Saravia condemned the events and expressed her condolences to the families of the victims.
The first lines of investigation seek to establish whether the attack was specifically directed against the municipal candidate, who organized the coexistence so that inhabitants of the community could follow the meeting of the Mexican National Team, although the authorities indicated that they do not rule out any hypothesis.
