Former DEA director asks Sheinbaum to join a group against narcoterrorism
Derek Maltz took to social media to send a strong message to the president of Mexico
The former acting director of the DEA, Derek Maltz, took to social networks to send a strong message to the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum.
Through his account on X, he invited the Mexican president to join a coalition to confront organized crime, specifically against drug cartels, many of which have been designated by the US as terrorist organizations.
“Join the anti-cartel coalition @Claudiashein today and the United States will ensure substantial results,” Maltz wrote.
"To defeat global terrorists, all tools are needed, including military action. The terror cartels have terrorized the citizens of both countries. Enough is enough! It is time to act!" added the former director of the DEA.
Finally, in the same message he thanked Venezuela “for cooperating in a very successful operation against Niño Guerrero,” who was the top leader of the Aragua Train.
Called for the arrest of corrupt officials
A few days ago, Maltz also addressed the Mexican authorities to ask them to arrest officials identified in investigations in the Southern District of New York, and stated that the fight against cartels requires actions against corruption within the institutions.
Through social networks, he pointed out that criminal organizations do not operate in isolation and maintained that they depend on corrupt officials, compromised institutions and networks that facilitate activities related to drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking and other crimes.
According to his message, any strategy to confront criminal groups must include investigations, accountability and cooperation between authorities.
