Hispanic used fake police vests to invade homes in Texas
Andres Hernandez Torres was charged with two violent robberies in Houston, in which he and other men posed as police officers to subdue the victims
A 29-year-old Hispanic man, identified as Andres Hernandez Torres, faces formal charges for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated kidnapping in Harris County. He remains in custody with bail set at $450,000 and is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on September 15, 2025.
According to court documents, Hernandez Torres and other men broke into an apartment in the 9002 block of Sterlingshire on July 30, posing as police officers. They wore vests bearing the word "officer" and carried firearms. Once inside, they zip-tied a man and two women and stole belongings from the home.
Repeated Pattern
On August 4, another case involving the same modus operandi was reported in the 7065 block of Bellfort Street. The suspects subdued the home's occupant and tied him up before fleeing with the stolen goods.
According to the investigation, Hernandez Torres may have acted as the getaway driver, despite not having a driver's license.
The Houston Police Department (HPD) is investigating whether the accused is linked to a third robbery in the 4800 block of Bellnole Street, as well as other invasions reported in the same area.
The prosecutor's office confirmed that firearms were used in all incidents and that the victims were subdued under threat of death.
Due to the seriousness of the charges, authorities requested strict precautionary measures, ensuring that the bail is not excessive, but sufficient to guarantee the appearance of the accused.
Meanwhile, detectives are reviewing surveillance videos and other court documents, and an official photograph of the detainee is expected to be released in the coming days.
