Man killed inside Maryland's MGM National Harbor in targeted shooting
Prince George's County authorities confirmed that a man in his 20s was shot and killed in the food court of the prestigious hotel complex
According to the Prince George's County Police, the incident occurred shortly before 12:00 pm in the food court of the complex, located on the banks of the Potomac River and valued at $1.4 billion. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, is believed to be a man in his 20s.
Initial investigations suggest that the shooting was not indiscriminate. On the contrary, detectives described it as a “targeted shooting.”
The assailant pursued the victim before shooting
During a press conference, authorities detailed that the attacker “stalked” the victim inside the casino, suggesting that he knew exactly where he was.
“This was not a random attack. Preliminary information indicates that the suspect appeared to know the victim’s location,” the county police reported.
After the shooting, the assailant quickly fled the scene. Initially, it was feared he might have escaped on foot toward nearby residential areas, leading to a temporary closure of schools in the area. These measures were lifted once investigators confirmed the suspect escaped in a vehicle. The casino remained open after the incident. Despite the impact of the event, the MGM National Harbor did not suspend operations. The area of ??the shooting was cordoned off, but the rest of the complex continued to receive visitors. Police have not reported any additional injuries or indications of an active threat to the public. Authorities are reviewing security camera footage and interviewing witnesses to identify the perpetrator and reconstruct their movements before and after the crime.
