Georgia mother is accused of killing her two babies in incidents that occurred in 2021 and 2025
Dakota Taylor was arrested and faces serious charges after the deaths of her sons Caleb, 8 months old, in January 2024, and Micah, 7 months old, in 2021
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) reported that Dakota Taylor, 21, was arrested Thursday and faces homicide charges with malice aforethought, aggravated homicide, and first-degree cruelty to children.
The request to initiate the investigation was made on January 8 by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, after an 8-month-old baby was found unconscious in a home in Matthews, Georgia. The child, identified as Caleb, was taken to a hospital, where he died shortly afterward.
Court documents detail the charges
According to a grand jury arrest warrant cited by local media, investigators maintain that Taylor acted “unlawfully and with premeditation” when she suffocated the child, causing him “excessive mental and physical pain.”
At the time of her arrest in this case, the young woman was already being held in the McDuffie County Jail, linked to another investigation into the death of her son Micah, which occurred in 2021.
A previous case in 2021
In September 2021, Taylor was named in another court order for allegedly obstructing the airway of 7-month-old Micah. At the time, the cause of death had not been determined, according to press reports. On the night of the incident, officers responded to a group home where the mother and baby were temporarily residing. Body camera footage—mentioned in media reports—captures the moment after the child was found unconscious. Documents cited indicate that Taylor had bathed the child before placing him in a swing. Minutes later, staff at the center noticed the baby was “collapsed, pale, and unresponsive.” Reactions at the scene and subsequent reports: Records from the Department of Family and Children Services indicate that the mother displayed a distant attitude in the days following Micah's death, according to media reports.
In the body camera videos—the documents describe—an officer commented that Taylor remained “indifferent” as officials removed the baby.
Georgia state authorities indicated that the investigation remains active and that no new details have been released regarding Taylor's criminal proceedings or the definitive causes of both deaths.
