“They hit us and took everything”: Colombian influencer Valeria Roa suffered an express kidnapping
The content creator recounted that she and a friend had their eyes covered, were beaten, and had their belongings taken, including clothing
Influencer Valeria Roa has once again brought the issue of insecurity in Bogota to the forefront of the debate after recounting two separate incidents she recently experienced, which, according to her followers, reflect an increasingly common problem in the capital: from the rise in express kidnappings to robberies nighttime robberies in residential neighborhoods.
Roa, known for her humorous content on social media, reported via her TikTok account @valeriaroam7 that she was the victim of an express kidnapping after leaving a concert. The incident occurred about a week ago when, after her cell phone battery died, she and a friend decided to take a taxi on the street near El Campin stadium.
According to her account, minutes after starting the ride, several men got into the vehicle and attacked them simultaneously. They covered their eyes, beat them, and took all their belongings, including shoes and clothing. Notifying that their cell phones were dead, the assailants demanded chargers, banking app passwords, and access to personal information, all while threatening and physically assaulting them. The content creator stated that during the order, the criminals used a supposed search as a pretext to commit inappropriate touching, and that one of them even kissed her, warning her to cooperate to avoid further consequences. The journey, which she estimated to have lasted about 30 minutes, ended when both women were abandoned on a street, barefoot and under threat of not looking back. “It was a traumatic experience, an endless walk where you thought it could be the end,” she stated. After the assault, Roa sought help from the police, but questioned the response she received. According to her account, an officer told her there was little she could do, while a major commented that they had been lucky, as victims are often murdered in that area, without being offered further support or clarity regarding the investigation. The video generated a strong reaction on social media. Where dozens of users shared similar stories that occurred in almost identical circumstances, especially after concerts and at night. Some recommended opting for ride-hailing services, while others suggested seeking psychological support to cope with the impact of the attack.
Valeria Roa had already experienced another incident related to insecurity. In the early morning, while recording videos for her social media, she began to hear strange noises outside her home. Between fear and confusion, she decided to look out the window and discovered two men trying to steal electrical cables.
Although she admitted she was trembling and had never experienced a similar situation, Roa reacted by shouting and warning that she had already called the police, which caused the alleged thieves to flee the scene. Later, she recounted the episode with some humor and left a message for her neighbors, noting that she had avoided a robbery almost by chance, simply by being awake at two in the morning.
The comments came pouring in. While some applauded his bravery, others reminded him that these types of situations represent a risk and reflect an environment in which citizens feel compelled to confront crime on their own.
