Jessie J reveals that she suffers from breast cancer
The British singer revealed that the condition was detected early and she is preparing to undergo surgery.
The 37-year-old singer Jessie J announced through her social networks that she was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, so her next step will be to undergo surgery.
It was through an unexpected video on Instagram that the interpreter of "Price Tag" and "Bang Bang" opened up to her fans about the changes she has experienced on a personal level as a result of this diagnosis.
“I was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer,” she explained on her official profile. “I emphasize the word 'early-stage.' Cancer is horrible in any form, but I cling to the word 'early-stage,'” she added.
The artist also said that while she initially thought about dealing with her treatment privately, she recognizes the importance of sharing her story so that more people going through a similar situation don't feel alone.
“I just wanted to be open and share it (…) I know how much sharing my past has helped me, with other people who give me their love and support, and also their own stories. I'm an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much. Similar and worse; that's what kills me,” she admitted.
Finally, Jessie J announced that she will be taking a break from the stage once her work commitments scheduled for this June are completed. This is in order to focus on her well-being and complete the treatment that her medical team has recommended.
“I’m going to disappear for a while after the Summertime Ball festival (scheduled for next June 15th) to have surgery. And I’ll come back with huge tits and more music,” she concluded with her characteristic fun personality.
The British-born singer rose to fame in 2010, when she released her first single “Do It Like a Dude”. This song reached number two in the United Kingdom and opened the door for her to release her debut album, “Who You Are”. Currently, she is an internationally renowned singer and on a personal level she has a 2-year-old son with basketball player Chanan Colman.
