Ricky Martin will receive the first Latin Icon award at the VMAs

Ricky Martin will be the first artist to receive the prestigious Latin Icon award at this year's MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
The special recognition celebrates the Puerto Rican singer's four decades of career and his global impact in Latin music and pop culture.
This year, Ricky Martin also celebrates the 26th anniversary of his first VMA performance in 1999, when he became the first Latin male artist to win Best Pop Video.
In addition to the Puerto Rican singer, rapper Busta Rhymes will also be honored with a new award: the Rock the Bells Visionary Award.
This year, the VMAs ceremony will be held on September 7 at the UBS Arena in New York.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this year the ceremony promises to dazzle with a diverse lineup of artists that will perform during the ceremony, including J Balvin and Sabrina Carpenter.
Other artists set to perform at the VMAs include singer-songwriter Alex Warren, who will perform his song "Ordinary," nominated for Song of the Year; and Sombr, nominated for Best Alternative Artist for his single "Back to Friends."
This year, the show will include new categories like Best Pop Artist and Best Country Video, broadening the spectrum of musical genres recognized by the awards.
Who are the artists with the most nominations?
Lady Gaga leads the VMA nominations. The "Bad Romance" singer is up for Best Video, Best Album, and Best Collaboration for her work with Bruno Mars on "Die with a Smile," which is also a candidate for Song of the Year and Best Pop Song.
He is followed by Bruno Mars with eleven nominations, and Kendrick Lamar with ten; Sabrina Carpenter and Blackpink's Rose, who is nominated for the first time, with eight nominations.
As for Latin artists, Bad Bunny appears on the list with four nominations: Artist of the Year, Best Album,Best Long Form Video and Best Latin Song for "Baile Indigena."
