The historic vocalist of La Oreja de Van Gogh, Amaia Montero, confirmed her return to the emblematic Spanish band, after 18 years of leaving the group.

The news was shared by the Spanish band through a statement on their website that put an end to rumors about the long-awaited return of the 49-year-old singer.

In 2007, Amaia Montero decided to leave La Oreja de Van Gogh after a decade as the group's vocalist to begin a solo career and explore new artistic horizons outside the group that launched her to fame.

Montero always assured that her departure from the group was a personal decision motivated by her desire to grow musically and not by fights or differences with her colleagues, specifically with Pablo Benegas, the group's guitarist.

The singer also assured that the tours and media exposure were decisive in her decision to leave the group, since the constant stress was beginning to affect her mental health.

After Montero's departure, La Oreja de Van Gogh continued with Leire Martinez as the lead vocalist for 17 years, until she also left the group a year ago.

In recent years, Amaia Montero faced some issues related to her mental health. In 2022, the singer was planning to release an album; However, the project never saw the light of day because she decided to step away from music to focus on her mental health.

That year, the Spaniard generated concern among her followers after posting an alarming message on her social media. "If hope is the last thing to die and I haven't lost it yet, what good is life to me?" Montero wrote at the time.

Shortly after, Montero had to be urgently hospitalized at the Clinica Universitaria de Navarra due to a severe episode of stress and anxiety.

After some time away from the public eye, the singer reappeared recovered and happy on her social media.
