Ben Affleck doesn't want his children to be actors
The actor and director seeks to protect Violet, Fin, and Samuel from media exposure, encouraging them to find their own paths away from Hollywood
In an industry where family dynasties are usually the norm, Ben Affleck decided to break the mold. During the world premiere of his film The Loot, held on January 13, the 53-year-old actor made his stance clear regarding the professional future of his three children with Jennifer Garner: Violet (20), Fin (17), and Samuel (13). With a mixture of honesty and dry humor, Affleck confessed that he has no intention of pushing his children into show business. “They are bright, charming, and wonderful; we love them and are proud of them,” the actor stated in an interview with E! News. However, he concluded with a phrase that has resonated in the press: “We hope they don’t waste their lives acting.” For Affleck, growing up under public scrutiny is a “complicated” challenge that he does not wish to impose on his children. His priority, shared with Garner, is to offer them the space they need to discover their true passions. This philosophy is already bearing fruit: his eldest daughter, Violet, is currently a student at Yale University and has distinguished herself through her activism in public health and the environment, distancing herself from film sets. In addition to professional freedom, the director of Argo emphasizes the value of work and financial limits. He revealed that his older children already combine their studies with part-time jobs. “I have the money; you’re broke,” he recalled telling his youngest son to teach him the importance of personal effort. With this type of parenting, Affleck seeks to ensure that fame is, for his children, merely a circumstance of their parents' lives and not the central focus of their own.
