In her words, this was not a choice based on regret, but rather one based on self-knowledge. Keaton emphasized that getting married “wouldn't have been a good idea for me,” adding, “I'm really glad I didn't do it, and I'm sure they're happy about it, too.”
This stance dates back to her teenage years. Keaton recalled a revelatory moment in high school, when a boy approached her and said, “You'll make a good wife someday.” Her internal reaction was immediate and definitive: “I thought, 'I don't want to be a wife. No.'”
She adopted at 50
Throughout her later years, Keaton was consistent in her contentment with being single. In 2023, she told AARP The Magazine, “I'm not dating anyone,” and considered it “very unlikely” that she would seek another relationship.
Yet her life found profound meaning in motherhood. At 50, Keaton adopted his two sons, Dexter and Duke. “I never thought I was ready to be a mother,” she confessed to Ladies' Home Journal.
“Motherhood wasn't an irresistible impulse. It was more of an idea that had been floating around in my head for a long time. So I went for it,” she said.
Although her children have preferred to stay out of the public eye, they supported their mother at important moments in her career. Keaton proudly remarked in 2007: “They're not interested in what I do, which I think is very healthy.” Together, They forged a family life that she described as “relatively normal, well, sort of normal.” The news of the actress's death was announced on October 11.
