Exception at the Met Gala? Beyoncé attends with Blue Ivy and opens debate on social networks
The presence of the 14 year-old generated divided opinions due to the rule that establishes an age limit for the admission of guests
The stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York saw dozens of stars parade during the May 4 evening for the Met Gala 2026. However, one of the most acclaimed artists of the night was Beyoncé, who returned to the event as co-chair after a decade absence.
For this edition, the “Crazy in Love” interpreter participated as one of the figures in charge of the organization along with personalities such as Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour. The theme chosen was titled “Fashion is Art” and was linked to the “Costume Art” exhibition, located in the iconic venue and focused on the relationship between fashion and the visual arts.
The emotion of the public was multiplied when seeing the singer posing with her husband, rapper Jay-Z, and her older daughter Blue Ivy Carter. The Grammy winner opt or by a striking design by Olivier Rousteing inspired by a skeleton. The dress was accompanied by a voluminous cape with feathers and a headdress.
For her part, the 14 year-old paraded down the carpet in a white Balenciaga dress with a wide skirt. The youthful touch was given through an open jacket and dark glasses.
Despite the glamour, the presence of Blue Ivy Carter triggered a debate on social networks in which thousands of users questioned her debut at the event due to the access rules of the Met Gala.
And it's according to the guidelines mentioned in May 2018, entry to this event would be reserved for people over 18 years old.
Proof of this is the former “Dance Moms” participant, Maddie Ziegler, who declared to The Hollywood Reporter that her participation in the edition of that year (under the theme of “Heavenly bodies: fashion and the Catholic imagination”) couldn’t be realized because “I wasn’t old enough”.
The media attention that these statements generated caused the organizing committee to issue a statement in which reported on the executive decision that the Met Gala “is not an appropriate event for those 18 years old.”
Despite the questions about it, both Beyoncé and the organizing committee of the Met Gala have remained on the sidelines of issuing comments on the regard.
