Glenn Close and Ridley Scott to receive honorary Oscars
The actress and the director are two of the five honorees of the 17th edition of the Governors Awards, which will be held on November 15 in Los Angeles
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has spoken. The names of the artists who will be honored at the 17th edition of the Governors Awards have been revealed, and the list includes stars such as actress Glenn Close and director Ridley Scott.
According to a statement issued by the institution's Board of Governors, the protagonist of “Fatal Attraction” and the director of “Gladiator” will share the stage with animator Floyd Norman to receive the Honorary Academy Awards in recognition of their careers and contributions to the film industry.
In turn, producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler will be honored with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award. This award is given to producers whose work reflects “a consistent track record of quality in film production,” the letter states.
“The Academy Board of Governors is delighted to present this year's Governors Awards to five extraordinary individuals whose groundbreaking work has permanently shaped the art of filmmaking,” said Lynette Howell Taylor, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Glenn Close and her legacy in the film industry
The 79-year-old actress will receive this honor after four decades in the world of entertainment, with a portfolio that includes projects in film, theater and television.
Regarding this fact, Lynette Howell stated: “Throughout his extraordinary work, his incomparable emotional range has given life to some of the most complex characters in cinema.”
And her talent has led her to be nominated eight times for the Oscar Award thanks to her work in films such as: “Fatal Attraction”, “Dangerous Liaisons”, “Albert Nobbs”, “The Wife” and “Hillbilly Elegy”. However, she remains the living actress with the most nominations in acting categories without managing to win.
Ridley Scott will seal his impact on the film scene
Speaking about filmmaker Ridley Scott, Howell Taylor described him as: “a true visionary whose decades-long legacy has left an immeasurable impact on film and global culture.”
The ceremony in which Glenn Close, Ridley Scott and the rest of the artists will be celebrated will take place on November 15 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles. This event is part of the activities promoted by the Academy for the next Oscar season.
The Governors Awards give awards that are considered official Oscars; although these differ from the main gala because they are not competitive nor are they voted on in the same annual categories.
