Jennifer Aniston's stalker is released under treatment
The court decision to transfer Jimmy Carwyle to a mental health program raised alarms in the actress's circle, who fears for her safety
The stalking case that has kept Jennifer Aniston on edge took an unexpected turn this week. Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, the 49-year-old man accused of stalking the Friends star, was released into custody to be placed in a mental health treatment program. The decision, made by a Los Angeles court, has generated deep concern among the star's legal team. Carwyle was arrested after a violent incident on May 5, 2025, when he crashed his SUV into the gates of Aniston's Bel Air mansion, causing more than $50,000 in damages. According to court documents, the man suffers from schizophrenia and erotomanic delusions, which led him to believe for years that Aniston was his wife and that they should start a family. Although the judge determined that Carwyle is not competent to stand trial at this time, his release is not complete. The court imposed strict restrictions: he must wear a GPS ankle monitor, abstain from drugs and alcohol, and stay at least one mile away from the actress and her properties. However, Aniston's defense strongly opposed this measure, having previously requested that the defendant be committed to a maximum-security state hospital. The lawyers argue that Aniston lives in constant fear, as Carwyle has displayed obsessive-compulsive tendencies, sending messages in which he identified himself as "Christ" and detailed plans to have three children with her. Following her stalker's release, the actress has drastically increased private security at her residence, while the criminal proceedings remain suspended until a real assessment of the defendant's mental state can be made, with the next hearing scheduled for April 29.
