Karol G was acquitted of lawsuit for alleged plagiarism
Miami court closed the case after the plaintiffs admitted that the evidence favored the Colombian artist
In an unexpected turn for the music industry, Karol G was officially acquitted of the plagiarism accusations against her for her song "Gatubela".
Producers Jack Hernandez (known as Ocean Vibes) and Dick Alfredo Caballero Rodriguez (Alfr3d Beats), who had initiated a legal battle in a Miami court, decided to voluntarily withdraw the lawsuit and issue a public apology toward the artist and her team.
The controversy revolved around the song “Gatubela”, released in 2022 and included on the successful album Manana sera bonito.
The plaintiffs alleged that the song copied key elements of their composition titled “Punto G”. However, the legal process took a decisive turn when Karol G's defense presented irrefutable chronological evidence. According to court documents, it was proven that Karol G's producer, DJ Maff, had created and recorded the beat for "Gatubela" two weeks before the plaintiffs' song was even released. Faced with the overwhelming evidence, the producers not only dropped the lawsuit but also acknowledged their mistake. "We were wrong. We offer our sincerest apologies to Karol G and DJ Maff for our erroneous claims," ??they stated in a press release that will be shared on their social media. This outcome not only clears the name of the Colombian singer but also reinforces the integrity of her creative process at a peak moment in her career. The closing of the case in Florida puts an end to months of speculation, allowing the artist to continue breaking records without legal shadows hanging over her musical legacy.
