Met Gala: The best latino red carpet looks in the event's history
From Salma Hayek's debut to Eiza González's avant-garde, Mexican stars have consolidated their presence in the most exclusive event in fashion
The Met Gala is not only the most important charity event of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, but the stage where fashion becomes art and narrative.
Over the years, Latino celebrities, especially Mexican ones, have used this showcase to demonstrate their global influence, collaborating with the most prestigious high-end couture houses in the world.
Salma Hayek remains as the indisputable reference of constancy and style. Her career in the gala began in 1997 with a minimalist and sophisticated black dress by Versace, a gift from Johnny Depp that marked a milestone for its simplicity.
Over time, Hayek has evolved into more complex interpretations, such as the acclaimed red Gucci with pearl details from 2023, which paid tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, or Alexander McQueen's ethereal design in 2011.
For her part, Thalía has claimed the title of “queen of extravagance”. Her willingness to risk was embodied in 2016 with a silver design by Tommy Hilfiger and Gustavo Matta that embraced the technological theme of the year.
Although some of his choices, such as 2019's futuristic look, have generated debate, his ability to stay at the center of the media conversation is undeniable.
The new generation is led by Eiza González, who has provided a modern and bold vision. Her appearance in 2021 with a vibrant red dress Versace, inspired by the classic glamour of Hollywood but with an avant-garde touch, positioned her as one of specialized critics' favorites.
Other Latin artists who have standout with their looks in recent editions of the Met Gala are Bad Bunny, Maluma, J Balvin, Karol G and Shakira.
With each edition, the Latin talent reaffirms that its presence on the red carpet is synonymous with boldness, sophistication and a deep understanding of the language of fashion.
